  Branca consistently delivers great brunches, lunches and dinners at a reasonable price with decent portions. The specials are always great. Simply the best contemporary Italian cuisine in Oxford.

  This bustling, vibrant restaurant and bar is hugely popular and quite understandably so. The menu is creative and interesting, the wine list stimulating with some great stuff on it, the cooking is first rate and the ingredients of the best quality. However, what really makes it sing is the front of house team who without exception were delightful and professional (when I ordered a pre-dinner vodka martini straight up with a twist, the barman's only question was, "How dry?"). One feels very well looked after. Three course dinner for four, two bottles of great wine, all the trimmings and a generous tip, £40 per head all in. Worth every penny and more. Go there.

  We have been to Branca several times now and have developed kind of a love hate relationship. There are times when it is extremely 5* good and times when I just want to leave before my order even gets to the table. Today's experience was one of the latter, unfortunately.
  The worst was a mediocre service. We were moved tables, then seated between what felt like two waiters' highways, had a condescending waitress, our bill was wrong and we had to pay several times and use multiple card machine which ended with us paying by cash. Cutlery wasn't provide until requested and when it was finally delivered to the table by a waiter, he walked away adjusting his trousers and showing us his butt crack.
  On top of that, the food used to be much better. The meat chosen for the steak was extremely chewey to a level of non-enjoyment.

  Great place if you like rustic charm and good picnic food. You can even eat things you buy in the deli in the restaurant next door, though obviously they're best if taken outside.
